![]() ![]() That doesn't make them two to three times as bright as seen by the human eye, however. ![]() ![]() Most data projectors today that one would consider competitive with the SP-F10M have brightness ratings in the range of 2,000 to 3,000 lumens. It's important to understand the SP-F10M's 1,000-lumen rating in context. A nice touch too is that the LEDs take only about 30 seconds to warm up to a stable state with full brightness, compared with several minutes to half an hour for standard lamps. I found the focus and zoom rings offered just the right amount of resistance to give sure control, making it easy to adjust both without over- or under-shooting the right setting. Plug in the appropriate cables or the USB key, set the projector for the right source, point it at a screen, and adjust the image size and focus with the manual controls. Instead, you'll have to stay near the computer to use the mouse or keyboard.Īs with almost all projectors, setup is easy. Missing from the back panel is a USB connector to let you connect to your computer, so you can control the computer mouse pointer or page through a presentation from the projector's remote. According to Samsung, the projector can read more than 15 file formats, including data (PDF, HTML, PowerPoint, and more), video (AVI, WMV, DIVX and more) and audio (MP3 and WMA) files. One additional touch, which isn't quite common enough to count as standard yet, is a USB connector so you can show presentations and other files directly from a USB memory key. For audio, aside from the HDMI connector, there's a single stereo input, using a pair of RCA connectors. The back panel includes a VGA port for a computer or component video source, a pass-through VGA port for a monitor, an HDMI port for a video source or digital connection to a computer, and both an S-video connector and RCA jacks for composite video. The SP-F10M offers all the connection options you need for most purposes, although it's a little short on audio connectors. The relatively low brightness limits its image size and ability to stand up to ambient light compared with most data projectors, but it's still bright enough to be useable in most situations. It can also sit on a cart for room-to-room portability. Still, it's light enough so you might be willing to carry it with you occasionally. At 3.6 by 11.7 by 9.1 inches (HWD) and 9.2 pounds, it's a little too big and heavy to use as a portable on a regular basis. Samsung calls the SP-F10M a conference-room projector. However, both are meant for much the same kind of business use. The two differ in some obvious ways, including resolution (the Epson projector is 1,280 by 800 WXGA), brightness (with ratings of 2,500 lumens for the Epson model but only 1,000 lumens for the SP-F10M), and the fact that the Epson projector has a built-in DVD player. Best Hosted Endpoint Protection and Security SoftwareĪside from the light source, the SP-F10M is a typical XGA (1,024 by 768) LCD-based projector, similar in size and weight to the Editors' Choice Epson PowerLite Presenter ($899.99 direct, 4 stars) that I reviewed earlier this year. ![]()
